Eng Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice: A Classic Dish Done Right

Eunos Crescent Food Centre is just a 2 minute stroll away from Eunos MRT Station. The food centre features a good mix of Indian, Malay and Chinese food.

If you’re a fan of Hainanese chicken rice, Eng Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice at Eunos Food Centre is one stall worth checking out. Tucked within this bustling hawker centre, Eng Kee has built a solid reputation among locals for serving up an authentic and satisfying plate of this beloved dish.

The Chicken – Tender & Fragrant

The star of the show is undoubtedly the chicken. Poached to perfection, the meat is tender, succulent, and carries just the right amount of gelatinous skin. Each bite is juicy and infused with a light, natural sweetness that showcases the quality of the chicken. Unlike some places where the meat can feel dry or stringy, Eng Kee nails the texture, making it a joy to eat.

The Rice – Fragrant & Fluffy

No great chicken rice is complete without well-cooked, aromatic rice, and Eng Kee delivers. The rice is fluffy yet firm, with each grain evenly coated in a fragrant mix of chicken fat, garlic, and ginger. It’s not overly greasy but has just the right richness that makes it incredibly moreish.

The Chili & Condiments – A Game Changer

A good plate of chicken rice is incomplete without its accompanying condiments, and Eng Kee’s chili sauce packs a punch. Bright, tangy, and with a nice spicy kick, it cuts through the richness of the chicken beautifully. Paired with the dark soy sauce and ginger paste, the flavors come together harmoniously, allowing diners to customize each bite to their liking.

Portion & Pricing – Affordable & Generous

Despite the rising costs of food in Singapore, Eng Kee remains reasonably priced, offering generous portions without compromising on quality. Whether you opt for the roasted or steamed chicken, you’re getting great value for money.

Final Verdict

Eng Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice may not have the media hype of more famous chicken rice spots, but it delivers where it matters most—flavor, consistency, and value. If you’re in the Eunos area and craving a comforting, well-executed plate of chicken rice, this stall is a worthy contender. Definitely one to bookmark for your next hawker food adventure!

Appearance wise, the skin looked glossy while the meat looked moist and succulent. The soy sauce gravy had a slightly sweet umami flavour which we used to drizzle over our rice and chicken. The chicken tasted exactly like how it looked, moist and tender.

The rice was not super fragrant or greasy but each grain was nicely separated. It was not much of an issue for us as the soy sauce gravy and the chili with the chicken provided the perfect combination.

Safe to say, Eng Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice serves up an excellent plate of chicken rice.
