If you’re a dumpling lover, Yuen Kee Dumpling (袁记云饺) is one name that’s likely caught your attention and for good reason. Originating from Guangzhou, Yuen Kee has a large presence in Guangdong province in southern China where wanton mee is said to originate from. It specialises in freshly wrapped, generously filled dumplings and this chain has carved out a niche for delivering tasty and juicy bites that are both affordable and satisfying.

What sets Yuen Kee Dumpling apart is the variety and the freshness. The dumplings are handmade daily on-site and you can literally watch staff wrapping them behind the counter and the dumplings displayed prominently to give you assurance that they are freshly made on the spot.

The Fortune Centre outlet has limited dine-in capacity so do expect a long wait during peak hours. Otherwise you can order takeaways which you can immediately order at the self-service kiosk. We were there on a Sunday evening around 520pm and we had to wait almost 20 minutes even though we were second in the line.
Shrimp and Crab Roe Pork Wanton Dry Noodles
The food took about 10 minutes to prepare and you have to pick it up from the counter. The portion was generous, 6 good sized wantons, not the size of the wantons you get in the food centres. The noodles was springy and had a good bite. The sauce was slightly lacking, it was a light soy flavour with a hint of sesame oil. But that was easily fixed with the condiments provided, add a good amount of chili oil to enjoy the noodles. The filling in the wanton was juicy and had a subtle seafood sweetness to it, they did not go heavy on the seasoning.

Family Feast Assorted Pork Dumplings (12 pieces) with Viral Mixed Sauce with Chili Oil
This version was a bit heavy due to the peanut sauce added and the chili wasn’t spicy. The plump dumplings were encased in a thin silky skin and rested atop a bed of beansprouts, which wasn’t enough to meet my nutritional needs for the day. Add more condiments to make every bite of dumpling a flavour bomb.

My wife and I didn’t expect that 2 dishes were all it took to feel full as we wanted to head elsewhere for a second round. We thought we had ordered light but the portions were generous and the dumplings were chocked filled with ingredients. The ordering can take some time due to the variety of dumplings, seasonings and variations to choose from especially for a first timer.
