Onggii – Authentic Korean Gomtang and Comfort Food

Located at Suntec City, Onggii offers authentic Korean comfort food. Specializing in gomtang (beef bone soup), this eatery takes pride in its slow-simmered broths, delivering rich flavors and a deeply satisfying meal.

Unlike the usual Korean BBQ and fried chicken spots, Onggii focuses on a soul-warming, traditional dish that is well-loved in Korea. Gomtang, a beef bone soup boiled for hours, results in a milky-white broth packed with nutrients and collagen. The clean yet robust flavor makes it the perfect meal, especially on a rainy day.

Upon arriving, we ordered the Signature Gomtang Set, which includes a bowl of gomtang, rice, and a variety of banchan (side dishes). The soup was served piping hot, with tender beef slices and translucent glass noodles soaking in the rich broth.

How Does It Taste?

The broth itself was light yet deeply flavorful, proving that it had been simmered for hours. It wasn’t overly salty or greasy, making it easy to drink till the very last drop. The beef slices were soft and tender, complementing the chewy noodles perfectly.

What truly elevated the experience was the homemade kimchi and side dishes, which added a punch of tanginess and spice to balance the dish. The self-service seasoning station also allowed diners to customise their soup with salt, pepper, or spring onions according to their preference.

We ordered the Naju (Beef) Gomtang and a Kimchi Jjim (Pork). The food was served in under 10 minutes and piping hot in the earthen bowl. The broth was clear, you can taste the essence of the meat but it’s not seasoned so you would have to add in your desired salt and pepper to taste. It came with a few slices of meat, not sufficient for me hence I dunked the remaining rice into the soup to make a Gukbap.

Final Thoughts

Onggii offers a simple yet heartwarming meal that stays true to Korean culinary traditions. Whether you’re a fan of Korean food or just looking for a comforting bowl of soup, this place is worth a try if you are in Suntec City.
