Joo Chiat is becoming quite the destination for cafés, desserts and independent food spots, and Muted Gelato is one place that caught our attention.
Even before stepping inside, the cafe is hard to miss. The exterior is eye-catching, with a distinctive look that stands out along the street.

Inside, the space continues with a lime-washed interior that gives the cafe a clean, modern feel. It’s also surprisingly spacious, making it a comfortable spot to sit down and enjoy your gelato rather than just grabbing a cup and leaving.
But of course, the real reason to visit is the gelato.

Pistachio
We went with the Pistachio, and this was an easy favourite.
The flavour was rich and distinctly nutty without being overly sweet and they pride themselves on using pistachios from Sicily. What stood out to me was the texture and taste – smooth, creamy, the aromatic pistachio fragrance and taste and with that satisfying density you want from a good gelato.
Pistachio is one of those flavours where you can usually tell quite quickly whether a gelateria takes its gelato seriously, and this one definitely impressed us.

Uji Matcha
We also tried the Uji Matcha, which had a nice depth of matcha flavour.
It wasn’t just sweet with a hint of green tea. The matcha came through clearly, with a pleasant bitterness that balanced out the sweetness.
Between the two flavours, I found myself going back and forth because they offered such different profiles, the Pistachio was rich and nutty, while the Uji Matcha was more earthy and refreshing.
One of the Better Gelatos in Singapore?
The biggest takeaway for me was simply this: the gelato is really good. So good that we got a takeaway tub of Pistachio gelato.

There are plenty of places serving gelato these days, but when the texture, flavour and sweetness come together properly, you notice the difference. Muted Gelato definitely left that impression on us.
And the setting helps too. The striking exterior and spacious lime-washed interior make it a place where you can easily spend some time after a meal around Joo Chiat.
Overall
Muted Gelato was a really pleasant find in Joo Chiat.
The cafe looks great, the space is comfortable, and most importantly, the gelato is excellent.
If you’re around Joo Chiat and looking for a good dessert, I’d definitely put Muted Gelato on the list. The Pistachio and Uji Matcha are a great place to start, especially if you enjoy rich flavours that aren’t overly sweet.
