If you’re craving hearty, authentic Taiwanese street food without flying to Taipei, Wen Li Taiwanese Food should be on your radar. Tucked away in a humble hawker stall in Golden Mile Food Centre, Wen Li Taiwanese Food has attracted a lot of hype.
There was no queue when we arrived on a Wednesday afternoon at lunch hours. We decided to order the two dishes listed on its signboard – Taiwanese Braised Pork Rice and the Pig Intestine Mee Sua.

Braised Pork Rice (Lu Rou Fan):
We got the braised pork rice set that came with a portion of popcorn chicken for $7.80. A comforting bowl of short-grained rice topped with melt-in-your-mouth fatty pork belly braised in a rich soy-based sauce but on the sweet side and the flavour reminded me of the nonya rice dumpling. It also came with a hard boiled egg with a lava egg yolk (ramen egg). We however found the dish overall to be too cloying sweet.

The popcorn chicken was crispy and was made up of small chicken pieces and chicken skin, quite addictive. We mixed the chilli in to tone down the sweetness of the dish.

Pig Intestine Mee Sua:
Silky vermicelli in a thick, savoury gravy with slices of intestine for $4. Mix the chilli and minced garlic in to add another dimension to the flavour and it brings you right back to the night market of Shilin.
The portions at Wen Li Taiwanese Food are generous and their dishes are priced affordably under $8. For the quality and authenticity, it’s value for money.
During our visit, we noticed at least 3 braised pork rice stalls in Golden Mile Food Centre. Wen Li Taiwanese Food is currently the most popular one there based on Google reviews. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of Taiwanese cuisine or just looking to try something new, this place should satisfy your cravings. Expect comfort food, no-frills dining and friendly service from the hardworking hawkers.
