Nozomi at Millenia Walk used to be located at the end of the Japanese food street but it has since relocated inside the main mall itself where the human traffic is higher.
Nozomi was conceptualised as a casual offshoot of the esteemed Yoshi restaurant and aims to deliver authentic Japanese flavours at more accessible prices, without compromising on quality. With seafood regularly flown in from Toyoshu Market, we typically order their raw seafood dishes.
We are back for the second time but at its Star Vista outlet for lunch.
First up was the truffle, uni with negitoro appetizer. Everything melted in the mouth easily with the creaminess of the uni and perfume of truffle.
Next was the sashimi platter which was beautifully presented. The platter consisted of fatty tuna, maguro, scallop, squid, sea bream etc. The highlight was the quality of the tuna which I felt was the star of this restaurant.
The chirashi don came with hotake, tamagoyaki and aka ebi on top of red vinegar sushi rice. The sweetness of the hotake contrasted pleasantly with the sourish shari rice.
Finally it was the Nozomi maguro special that is made up of bluefin tuna from the the tuna king, Yukitaka Yamaguchi. Otoro (fatty tuna), chutoro (medium fatty tuna), akami (lean tuna), and negitoro (fatty tuna with spring onions) are served on Nozomi’s red vinegar sushi rice.
The source of the bluefin tuna and the relationship with the supplier makes a difference as the expertise of the supplier is required to discern the top quality tuna.
The use of red vinegar in the sushi rice adds a distinctive touch, enhancing the overall flavour without overpowering the fresh ingredients.
Nozomi by Yoshi stands out as a commendable establishment that brings the essence of Japanese food into a more casual and affordable setting. Its dedication to quality ingredients, combined with a serene ambiance, makes it a worthwhile destination for those seeking authentic Japanese cuisine in Singapore.
