Singapore has no shortage of noodle dishes, but few are as comforting and unmistakably local as bak chor mee. The combination of springy noodles, minced pork, pork slices, vinegar, chilli and savoury sauce is simple, familiar and deeply satisfying.
So when I came across Omega Pork Noodle at Jewel Changi Airport, what caught my attention was how it seemed to take the familiar idea of pork noodles and upsize it with more ingredients.
I tried two dishes, the Omega Signature Pork Noodle (Dry) and the Omega Curry Pork Noodle. While neither is quite the traditional bak chor mee you might find at a hawker centre, it is probably Malaysia’s interpretation of minced pork noodles. Omega prides itself on using Omega 3 certified pork to ensure high quality standards.
Omega Signature Pork Noodle (Dry)
The Omega Signature Pork Noodle (Dry) is probably the closest of the two to the familiar bak chor mee concept.
The foundation is straightforward: noodles tossed in a savoury sauce, topped with pork and other accompaniments. But rather than trying to replicate a traditional hawker-style bowl exactly, Omega presents it in a cleaner and more contemporary way.
What I enjoyed was the balance between the noodles and the pork. There was enough savouriness to make the noodles satisfying without becoming overwhelmingly heavy.
The difference is probably in the soup where you get a variety of ingredients – minced meat patty, sliced meat, liver, cabbage and pork lard. With that many ingredients, you can expect the soup to be tasty, very similar to the soup version of good bak chor mee in Singapore. The meat slices were tender and did not have the off-putting porkiness. The meat patty was surprisingly quite substantial and satisfying to accompany the noodles.

Omega Curry Pork Noodle
The Omega Curry Pork Noodle takes the concept in a completely different direction.
The curry brings a richer, creamier and more aromatic character to the dish. The pork works surprisingly well with the curry, giving the noodles a heartier profile.
For me, this is the more interesting option if you are looking for something beyond the usual.

Final Thoughts
Omega Pork Noodle offers a slightly elevated upsized version on something Singaporeans are already very familiar with.
It may not replace a good old-school bowl of bak chor mee when you’re craving that unmistakable hawker-centre flavour, but it is an interesting alternative if you want to experience a more fulfilling version of the familiar pork noodle.
