When it comes to iconic Singaporean dishes, wanton mee easily ranks high on the list and here in the Joo Chiat area, you would easily find at least 4 to 5 prominent places selling this. So if competition is rife in the area, one would expect them to maintain their game at the highest level.

Fei Fei Wanton Mee has long been a household name, drawing both locals and curious tourists eager to experience its house-made noodles. It is known for its no-frills setting and efficient service—this place is about the food, plain and simple.

The egg noodles was springy with a satisfying bite, tossed in a light, savoury sauce, which lacked umami. However I found that this could be fixed by adding more chilli sauce to the noodles. The char siew on the other hand was not roasted, more like a boiled version with colouring added. The wantons were tender and flavourful. Each one was packed with minced pork, delicately seasoned and wrapped in a silky skin. The soup was decent and was on the peppery side. In my opinion, the portion of noodles was small for the $7.10 price tag, I could finish it in just three mouthfuls, which was similar in size to Bangkok’s wanton mee.

The dumpling noodles was slightly more expensive at $8.20 probably because there was more filling and a prawn in each dumpling.
Fei Fei Wanton Mee operates from 6am till 2.30am making it accessible for night owls seeking supper spots.
