Jang San Korean Restaurant: The Best Jokbal in Singapore?

We chanced upon this restaurant after we wrapped up some work stuff nearby. It was the most crowded restaurant in NEWest Mall and it invoked our curiousity. It was packed inside the restaurant and the outdoor seating area had only a table left when we were there.

We decided quickly to have dinner here and we saw the tables around us had a common dish, which was Jokbal (Korean Braised Pork Totter). No brainer, we settled for a medium Jokbal set and the food was promptly served a short while later.

On first sight, it looks like a generous portion with soup and spicy cold noodles. The Jokbal tasted authentic and delicious just like the one we had at the Michelin Bib Gourmand Jokbal restaurant in Seoul, Manjok Ohyang Jokbal. The skin was chewy, the meat was tender and flavourful and you will find that you can’t stop wrapping one after another. Not forgetting that there were several side dishes (banchan) to accompany to tone down the richness of the meat.

This is as close as you can get to an authentic and delicious Jokbal in Singapore without having to fly to South Korea.
