If you’re in Taichung and looking for a taste of traditional Taiwanese street food, A Kun Mian (阿坤麵), you can give this a try. Tucked away in the heart of the city, this humble noodle shop is known for its simple, nostalgic dishes, affordable prices and fast service.

Dry Noodles (乾麵)
The signature item. A Kun’s dry noodles are classic Taiwanese comfort food: thin, chewy noodles tossed in a savoury braised minced pork sauce. The noodles weren’t overly sauced and there are 2 different brands of chili sauce on the table for you to use.
The soup was light, clear, and refreshing. The pork balls are bouncy and juicy, with that signature springy Taiwanese texture. The tofu was silky smooth, the skin of the crystal dumpling was thick and chewy, and the other stuff was ok. This reminds me of the yong tau foo we have in Singapore, which is basically a Hakka Chinese dish consisting primarily of tofu, egg plant, chili peppers filled with ground meat mixture or fish paste.

A Kun Mian keeps things old-school, no-frills tables, a fast-moving queue, and the sounds of preparation and cooking from the open kitchen. It’s the kind of place that runs like a well-oiled machine – quick, efficient, and focused entirely on getting you a good, honest meal.
