Xiang Ji Lor Mee Review: Is This Old Airport Road’s Best Lor Mee?

Xiang Ji Lor Mee Review: Is This Old Airport Road’s Best Lor Mee?

When it comes to Singaporean comfort food, few dishes hit the spot like a steaming bowl of Lor Mee—thick, starchy gravy loaded with tender braised ingredients. Among the many stalls at Old Airport Road Food Centre, Xiang Ji Lor Mee currently stands out as a crowd favourite.

But does it live up to the hype? In this detailed review, we’ll break down the flavours, textures, and overall experience of this beloved hawker dish.

There are 2 popular lor mee stalls in Old Airport Road Food Centre. The famous stall used to have a longer queue than Xiang Ji Lor Mee but it now has almost no queue. Many regular patrons gave feedback that although the famous stall raised prices, the amount of ingredients in the bowl of lor mee shrank and the quality has declined. We respectfully agree with them as we too didn’t enjoy the lor mee from Xin Mei Xiang Lor Mee as we used to.

However Xiang Ji Lor Mee still attracts a good queue during lunch time and we noticed this on several separate occasions.

Although optional, we find that adding minced garlic, vinegar and 2 types of chili (sambal and fresh cut chili) are essential components for our lor mee. Mix it well and slurp on the yellow noodles beneath the thick gravy. The fried mackerel chunks were generous for an order of a small portion and the gravy held up the thick viscosity until we almost finished the noodles.

Everyone deserves a proper and consistent version of lor mee and this is it.

Final Verdict: Worth the Queue?

  • Yes! This is the better lor mee in Old Airport Road Food Centre for its balanced gravy & good portion of ingredients.
  • Great value: affordable and filling.
  • Must-add: Extra vinegar, garlic, and chili for maximum flavour.
