Moon Moon Food (雙月食品社) Review – Must-Try Signature Dishes at Jinan Branch, Taipei

While most people visit Moon Moon Food (雙月食品社) for its famed chicken soup, its modern Taiwanese rice and noodle plates deserve just as much attention. At the Jinan branch, these dishes reflect a thoughtful balance between nutrition, nostalgia, and bold flavours and are all served with the clean, polished presentation the restaurant is known for.

Clam & Chicken Leg Herbal Soup (蛤蜊燉雞腿湯)

This dish is a signature staple at Moon Moon Food and perfectly reflects what the restaurant does best – nourishing, elegant, and flavourful soups made with top-quality ingredients.

  • The broth is clear, but don’t be fooled, it’s packed with umami from fresh clams and slow-simmered chicken leg. The result is a clean yet rich flavour that balances brininess from the sea and warmth from traditional boiled chicken soup.
  • The chicken leg is served in large parts, bone-in, slight tough and dry.
  • The clams are fresh and sweet, adding natural depth and oceanic fragrance to the broth without overpowering it.

It is light and satisfying, the clams are adequately plump although smaller in size and the clams are clean and do not have sand in them.

Fuji Kinmen Whitebait Rice Bowl (富士吻仔山拌飯)

This signature rice bowl is packed with texture and umami. Fried shallots and shallot infused oil are mixed into the rice and a mountain of whitebait is placed on top. Fresh spring onions are scattered for garnish and to add freshness. The whitebait lends some brininess to the dish and this is truly unique and executed well.

Love-Hate Pepper Sesame Noodles (愛恨椒芝麵)

This cold noodle dish is bold, punchy, and a little addictive. The noodles are chewy and al dente, coated in a rich, roasted sesame paste, layered with a hit of mala-style chili oil. You can taste the creaminess and nuttiness of the sesame paste and the slight heat and numbing from the mala oil. This is probably my favourite dish at Moon Moon Food.

Braised Golden Seabass Fillet (紅燒金鮮鱸魚排)

A comforting, home-style braised fish dish, elevated by premium ingredients.

  • The seabass is lightly fried and then braised in a soy-based sauce with ginger with a hint of sweetness.
  • The texture is soft and flaky with the sauce clinging to the crispy skin.
  • It’s a standout for those who prefer a healthier protein option that’s rich in omega-3s, without sacrificing flavour.
  • Served with sliced ginger and green onions, it’s a clean, satisfying bite. We paired every bite with the sliced ginger just like how we do it with xiaolongbao.

Moon Moon Marinated Oysters (雙月乾蚵)

This is a generous serving of Taiwan oysters, plump and delectable with no hint of fishiness. Came with a savoury sauce drizzled on the oysters. Definitely one of the more unique offerings on the menu.

Marinated Pig’s Ears (豬耳朵)

A Taiwanese classic, and Moon Moon Food does it right.

  • Thinly sliced for the perfect balance of crunch and chew, tossed in a light braised dressing with ginger.
  • The texture is gelatinous yet snappy, and the flavour is slightly savoury
  • It’s a great side dish to contrast softer, broth-based mains or to snack on while sipping soup.

Moon Moon Food (雙月食品社) doesn’t just excel at nourishing soups. It shines equally in its creative rice, noodle, and small plate offerings. From the spicy nuttiness of 愛恨椒芝麵 to the comforting depth of the seabass, every dish is crafted with balance, quality, and purpose.

If you’re visiting the Jinan Branch, don’t stop at soup, build a meal that includes these inventive sides for a full-bodied Taiwanese dining experience that’s both comforting and surprising.

The food preparation and service are equally efficient and it is good value for money. This is one of the few restaurants truly worthy of the Michelin Bib Gourmand.
