Kageyama Ramen at Suntec City: Is This An Award Winning Bowl of Ramen?

Kageyama is a celebrated franchised brand originating from Tokyo, Japan, renowned for its signature tori-paitan ramen. It is introduced to Singapore by Japan Food Holdings, the owner of Ajisen Ramen. The term “tori” refers to chicken in Japanese, while “paitan” translates to “white soup.”

Kageyama‘s ramen features a thick, rich, and creamy chicken broth, packed with collagen, achieved through hours of simmering. Customers can choose to enhance their broth with either shoyu (soy-based) or shio (salt-based) flavors. Kageyama has earned a place on Tokyo’s Ramen of the Year list, which highlights the city’s top ramen offerings, for three consecutive years (2021-2023), securing the Gold Medal each time.

Suntec City was fairly quiet for a Sunday evening with several restaurants on the third floor closed. Kageyama was situated in the middle of the walkway and a few tables were occupied when we arrived.

We ordered their recommended signature Original Tan Tan Noodles (Spicy), Pork Rib Mazesoba, Tan Tan Mazesoba (Non-Spicy) and Gyoza.

The Gyoza was quite limp and it looked like frozen gyoza was tossed in the microwave for a few minutes and it tasted exactly like that.

The Tan Tan Noodles broth was quite unique and it wasn’t that spicy. There bowl contained some lettuce, dried sakura shrimp and peanut chunks. The noodles used was thicker than Hakata ramen. The soup was nutty, slightly salty with a hint of spice.

The Pork Rib Mazasoba came topped with an onsen egg, shredded seaweed and sliced green onions, some minced pork and generous chunks of pork ribs. Mix in the onsen egg with the noodles and slurp up the chewy noodles. The cha shu was melt-in your mouth tender and flavours of the noodles were quite balanced.

The Tan Tan Mazesoba had about the same flavours as the Cha Shu version except the protein was minced pork.

Currently Kageyama offers free flow of hard boiled eggs, pickles and kaedama (extra servings of noodles) making it a value for money proposition.
