Located just across the street from its more popular neighbour, Foong Lian Claypot Rice was also awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand. We chanced upon this eatery because Heun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice was very crowded on the evening of our visit and we decided to quickly settle for dinner here.
According to the Michelin Guide, Foong Lian cooks its claypot dishes over charcoal fire, a method that gives the dish smoky and aromatic flavours. There was no queue at Foong Lian when we were there, instead they blocked the entrance to the eatery and requested that you scan to get a queue number and wait to get seated. Supposedly there are people who would just walk in to use their washrooms as there was a sign stating there is a surcharge for use of their washrooms if you are not a diner.
We tried to order the pig stomach soup, beansprouts and small chinese cabbage but were told they were not available. Hence we ordered the claypot chicken rice (drumstick only), wine chicken and iceberg lettuce.

The food arrived after 30 minutes, the claypot chicken rice looked similar to Heun Kee’s but there were noticeable differences. There wasn’t a smoky aroma to the dish and the rice was slightly more moist. The chicken was well marinated and was tender.

The wine chicken and iceberg lettuce were decent and tasted similar to home-cooked dishes.

Is it Michelin Bib Gourmand? There must be a unique element that sets it apart from other claypot chicken rice options available in KL. But I will leave it to to you to decide.
