Food Blog Review: Sin Ming Road Chicken Rice
When it comes to Singapore’s unofficial national dish, chicken rice, every foodie has their go-to stall. Tucked away in the fringe of Toa Payoh, Sin Ming Road Chicken Rice is one of those places that not many locals talk about and even fewer outside the neighbourhood know.
I can’t say, which is the star component here, is it the poached chicken, the rice or the chili. But for sure, the essential components that make up a good plate of Hainanese Chicken Rice are all top notch – the poached chicken is tender and succulent with a thin layer of jelly if you will.

The rice is equally impressive, fragrant, fluffy, and infused with just the right amount of chicken fat, pandan and ginger. It strikes a balance between being flavourful and not overly greasy, the kind of rice you can eat on its own without needing much else.

But what really takes a good plate of chicken rice to the next level is the chili sauce, and this eatery does not disappoint. Zesty, fiery, and garlicky, it elevates the meal and gives each mouthful that addictive kick. Pair it with their dark soy sauce, and you have the perfect trifecta.
The complimentary soup, likely boiled with the chicken bones was flavourful unlikely other chicken rice stalls. This place is serious about its chicken rice that even the soup has flavour.
What sets Sin Ming Road Chicken Rice apart is its consistency. Whether you order dine-in or takeaway, you know you’re getting the same standard every time. Prices are slightly higher than your usual hawker fare but this is an air-conditioned place with outdoor seating and the condiments and soup are free flow, making it a popular lunch spot for both office workers and nearby residents.
If you’re a chicken rice enthusiast, this hidden gem is worth the detour. It may not have the long queues of Maxwell or Tian Tian, but its authenticity, flavours, and heartwarming simplicity make it one of Singapore’s best-kept secrets. Additionally, the eatery now serves a variety of tze char dishes on its menu, its quite extensive but we didn’t try any.
Final Thoughts
Sin Ming Road Chicken Rice is a must-try for anyone who wants an honest, no-frills plate of Singapore’s most iconic dish.
