Located near the entrance closest to the carpark in Zion Food Centre in Singapore, Kang’s Wanton Noodle has been featured on the Michelin Bib Gourmand for several years. We were there just around 1030am on a Tuesday and the food centre was hardly occupied as many stalls were not opened for business yet.
The stall was manned by a single auntie and dumplings are no longer available on their menu. We ordered 2 small portions of wanton noodles at $5 a portion since this was our first time there.

A good bowl of wanton mee hinges on the chilli and Kang’s was on the spicier side. After taking our first bite of the noodles, we thought the seasoning tasted similar to Indomie. Their chilli is vibrant with a gentle heat that cuts through the richness of the noodles. The noodles was slightly overcooked but the positive thing was that it did not have the alkaline taste.
The wantons were regular in size, however we thought it could use more seasoning. The char siew was sliced thinly, tender and lightly glazed.
Kang’s includes a simple broth made from ikan bilis stock alongside the dry noodles. While not the showstopper of the meal, it refreshes the palate and balances the richer components of the dry bowl.
It is a simple bowl of wanton noodles and every individual component could use some fine-tuning to make the dish stand out. Perhaps it was not a good day or the standards have dipped or due to a lack of manpower. Maybe we will return to try again in the near future.
