江南麵屋 明洞店 Gangnam Myeonok – Korean Comfort Food in the Heart of Seoul

If you’re exploring iconic Korean cuisine in Myeongdong, Seoul, Gangnam Myeonok Myeongdong is one of the names you’ll keep hearing especially from locals and tourists looking for classic galbi (braised short ribs) and cold noodles in a cozy yet bustling setting. We got to know of this restaurant as it was recommended by South Korean celebrity chef Choi Hyun-seok in one of his videos.

Tucked away on the 5th floor of a building on Myeongdong 7-gil, Gangnam Myeonok might be a little tricky to locate at first. The ambience is straightforward and casual, which is perfect for both a hearty lunch and a communal dinner with attentive staff ready to help you navigate the menu.

Signature Dish: Galbi Jjim (Braised Short Ribs)

At the heart of the menu is their Galbi Jjim — tender braised beef ribs cooked in a rich, soy-based sauce. The meat is slow-braised until it’s fall-off-the-bone tender, with a glossy, slightly sweet glaze that carries deep umami flavour. It is soft and satisfying, well-worth the price and we could see ourselves returning for this. This was quite a generous portion.

Naengmyeon: A Refreshing Classic Cold Noodles

Gangnam Myeonok’s cold noodles including spicy or chilled options are often recommended as complementing sides to rich, hearty mains like the galbi. They arrive with crisp cucumbers and sweet pear slices, adding refreshing contrasts to deep-flavoured meats.

Mandu with Soup – A Comforting Korean Dumpling Experience

Korean Dumpling Soup

Dumpling Skin: Slightly chewy and springy, with a satisfying bite, the skin is not overly thick, so it doesn’t overpower the filling.

Filling: Juicy and well-seasoned, with a nice balance of meat and vegetables. The pork is tender without being fatty, while the cabbage adds a refreshing crispness.

Broth: Subtly savoury without being salty, which lets the mandu flavour shine while keeping the overall experience light. A hint of garlic and sesame lifts the profile.

Gangnam Myeonok Myeongdong is a strong choice for anyone craving classic Korean braised ribs and refreshing cold noodles in Seoul’s bustling Myeongdong district. The rich galbi jjim, paired with cool naengmyeon and satisfying mandu, delivers a blend of comfort, flavour and traditional Korean cooking making it a worthwhile visit if you want both authenticity and memorable taste.
