Chef Lup Roasted at Golden Mile – Is The Hype Real?

Chef Lup Roasted at Golden Mile – Is The Hype Real?

Introduction

If you’re seeking standout Cantonese-style roast meats in Singapore at affordable prices, Chef Lup Roasted is a must-visit. Tucked away in Golden Mile Food Centre (505 Beach Road, #B1-56, Singapore 199583), this hawker stall is helmed by Darren Lup – a young veteran who spent eight years as Executive Chef at Kam’s Roast before striking out on his own.

From glistening char siew to crackling sio bak and impeccably roasted duck, the stall has already gained buzz (and queues) for delivering restaurant-level craft in a hawker belt.

Location

The stall is located in the basement (B1) of Golden Mile Food Centre – a fairly accessible spot, about a 10-minute walk from Lavender or Nicoll Stations. The setup is modest: simple hawker-centre decor, a visible roast meat display, and a queue that tends to build quickly before the stall opens. We went there on a Sunday morning 30 minutes before opening time and we were the first in queue.

Tip: Go early (opening time is ~10:30am or around then) to avoid disappointment – meats often run out by mid-lunch.

What to Eat: Highlights

Char Siew

The char siew is arguably the superstar. Darren Lup brings decades of roasting expertise to the table, and the result is succulent char siew slices with the right balance of lean and fat, beautifully caramelised exterior and tender interior.

This makes it a strong buy for any roast-meat fan.

Sio Bak (Crispy Roast Pork)

The roast pork (sio bak) doesn’t disappoint either – the skin shows that desirable “shatter” crispness, followed by juicy, well-seasoned meat underneath. The skin still remained crispy after we had it after 40 minutes.

Roast Duck

The roast duck offers a glistening bronze skin, tender meat and it is on par with most restaurants’ standard.

Final Verdict

If you love Cantonese roast meats and are willing to line up, Chef Lup Roasted deserves a spot on your “must-try” list in Singapore. Its location at Golden Mile Food Centre makes it accessible, and the skill behind the roasting is evident in each dish. This is very likely to go into the Michelin Guide next year!

For the best experience: aim for the 3 meat combination to savour the best roasted meats. Arrive early. Queue patiently. The payoff? A flavour-packed, satisfying roast-meat meal that feels a cut above many hawker options.
